Full title – The Theory of Everything: The Quest to Explain All Reality. I’m facilitating this “Great Course,” at DEAR on consecutive Wednesdays at 10:00 AM, starting on July 3, 2024. I’m running two of the 24 lectures per session over 8 weeks in the summer and 4 weeks starting on November 18 at 1:15 PM. The links below hopefully provide useful supplements to Don Lincoln’s superb lectures.
- Understanding the Universe, from Quarks to the Cosmos – Link to a downloadable pdf file of the 2004 edition of Don Lincoln’s book. The revised edition, from 2012, which is more up to date, is available from the usual suspects (Amazon, etc.).
- Map of Particle Physics – Dominic Walliman’s superb 31-minute summary of the particle zoo in the Standard Model, one of many excellent overviews of a wide variety of scientific fields that he has produced. His modus operandi is to create a “map” of a scientific field, which is a very high quality poster that summarizes the entire field, and then a video, which walks through his map to explain the details. His YouTube channel, Domain of Science, contains all his videos, and his maps can be downloaded for free at his flickR site. His website is dominicwalliman.com. Needless to say, I highly recommend this guy!
- If you don’t understand Quantum Physics, try this! – Dominic Walliman’s 13-minute summary of Quantum Mechanics. I’m including it here because quantum concepts like Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle and Schrödinger’s Cat keep coming up in our discussions, and I’m not the guy to try to clarify these things. As he does with every topic I’ve sampled so far, Walliman does a great job of explaining the essential ideas while staying out of the weeds. If I have time, I may show this as an addendum in class after our 2 daily Lincoln lectures.
